Efficient team offense and defense are critical to lacrosse success. In this video, Coach Pilat presents several drills that will allow you to develop both your team offense and defense in alignment with your schemes and philosophies and demonstrates how these drills unfold into a 2-2-2 offense.
Offensively, the first series of drills work on picking concepts, attacking the goal and identifying the open player. These concepts are the framework of the 2-2-2 offense. They force players to make quick decisions and improve skill and speed of play.
Defensively these same drills work on early slides, rotations and recovery. You can tailor the slides and rotations to meet the needs of your defensive scheme.
Coach Pilat has his team demonstrate a high repetition shooting drill plus a passing drill with many movements and real game passing situations. These drills will also assist in merging the skills learned with the actual team offense and defense goals.
There are approximately 10 drills in this video. One highlighted drill is the 6 v 5 drill. This drill has 6 offensive players running the 2-2-2 offense. The defense in this drill plays man to man but must share the offensive player on the crease. This makes for a realistic situation where the defense gets broken down and players on both sides must read and react.
For 40+ years, Roanoke’s Bill Pilat has been a student of the game and worked to perfect drills and strategies in practice to create formidable, competent teams. In this video, Coach Pilat provides the tools to help you guide your team through several drills to develop your defensive package and incorporate the 2-2-2 offense.
